This is Michael Lee coming to you through ScottLee.name.
I received a very unique wake up call this morning. On Friday, December 5th, 2008, at 8:30 a.m. Central Standard Time I received a phone call from a report from a South American magazine called Veja. At first, I thought it was a telemarketer trying to sell me something. I almost hung up on him, but then he mentions that yesterday in Paris, France a large jewelry heist has taken place, maybe the world’s largest to date.
At that point, he had my full attention. This was the first I had heard of this. This gentleman goes on to tell me that he is going to e-mail me some questions and that he would call me back in one hour. The questions were pretty straightforward. I would discover later that he was trying to determine if this was the world’s largest jewelry robbery to date.
I am guessing my name came up in his research since I have listed some of the most well known and largest robberies in recent history on my website, http://www.michaelleesecurity.com. I will list them here as a reference:
Some examples of losses sustained due to inadequate security.
These examples were all found using the search engine, Google. All of the figures given in these examples are in United States dollars.
Milan, Italy, 2008 – Oscar Night Jewel Heist; $20 million in jewelry
Laguna Hills, California, 2006 – $500,000 in jewelry
Antwerp, Belgium, 2003 – $100 million in diamonds
Amsterdam 2005 – $102 million in diamonds
East Coast Gate Cutting Crew, 2003-2005 – $5 million in jewelry
Florida to New York, Dinner Time Burglars, 1969-1990 – $70 million
Paramus, New Jersey, 2008 – $1 million in jewelry
Baghdad, Iraq, 2007 – $282 million in cash
He most likely came across this information in a Google search.
He told me that he may quote me for a magazine article on this most recent heist. That could be interesting since the magazine he works for, Veja, has about a million readers.
Life can be very interesting sometimes.
